General Charles de Gaulle was the only member of the French Government who, when France fell in June 1940, refused to accept a separate peace with Germany and was ready to rally other Frenchmen and continue the fight. French text. Jean Baptiste Antoine Marcellin Marbot saw considerable service in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars and served on the Staff of Bernadotte. He took part in the campaigns in Russia and Spain (where he was ADC to Murat). Fighting at Austerlitz, Aspern-Essling, Wagram, Torres Vedras, and the Waterloo Campaign. This three volume set is in generally poor condition as the cover and spines are detached. The spine is missing on Volume I, as is the back board on Volume III.
