In her 50's she travelled with her family to North Carolina where they helped raise more than 500 Highlanders to fight for Britain in the American war of Independence. After her husband was released from prison, he stayed on for a further 6 years whilst she returned to Scotland.

THE LIFE OF LORD VISCOUNT NELSON

Horatio, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté was noted for his inspirational leadership, superb grasp of strategy and unconventional tactics, which resulted in a number of decisive naval victories. He was wounded several times in combat, losing one arm and the sight in one eye. Of his several victories, the best known and most notable was the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, during which he was shot and killed. The last pages of this account describe the great sadness of his funeral in detail.
