The Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS was a formation with a very unique history. Its members volunteered, and were spirited out of Finland to Germany under the watchful Russian eyes. It was attached to the 5th SS Division, "Wiking" and fought numerous battles on the Eastern Front in WWII. German text.

Of the foreign volunteer units who fought on the German side, two stand out particularly. 4-SS-Infantry Regt. was attached to the second SS brigade in the northern sector of the Eastern Front, and then served as fast rifle regiment of the SS-Panzer-Division "Das Reich". In the course of the war they formed battalions of the 27 SS Volunteer Division "Langemarck". The second part of the book deals with the Danish volunteers in the "Freikorps Danmark" under Sturmbannführer Christian Frederik and later Lieutenant Colonel von Lettow-Vorbeck.
