Richard Pape was the navigator of an RAF Stirling bomber and was shot down after completing a special mission to destroy Goering's residence which was used as operational HQ for the air defence of Berlin. He was hunted across Holland, joined the Dutch underground and was eventually captured in Leyden. There followed a series of treks, captures and escapes. One of the most celebrated of WWII escape stories.
