ROD OF IRON: FRENCH COUNTERINSURGENCY POLICY IN ARAGON DURING THE PENINSULAR WAR
by Don W Alexander

The first work to examine the French struggle to combat guerilla warfare on a provincial level. The author focuses specifically on Aragon, the most succesful of the French occupations in Spain. He makes use of archival sources to evaluate the occupation policy in the Ebro River Valley, a policy that concentrated on a 'military solution' to counterinsurgency and pacification.

SPANISH CAMPAIGN OF SIR JOHN MOORE
by J Anderson

The campaign from the Convention of Cintra, August 20th 1808, to the Embarkation, January 18th 1809. When Napoleon arrived in Spain with 200,000 men, Moore drew the French northwards. He established a defensive position on hills outside the town of Corunna. Like Nelson he was mortally wounded in battle, and also like the admiral lived long enough to be assured that he had gained a victory. He was buried wrapped in his military cloak in the Citadel.

THE WAR OF THE AUSTRIAN SUCCESSION 1740-1748
by M S Anderson

Set in motion by the disputed succession of Maria Theresa and her husband to the lands of Emperor Charles VI, this series of major conflicts involved far more than just the fate of the Habsburgs: soon, Austria, Prussia, France, Britain, Spain, Bavaria, Saxony and the Netherlands were embroiled in their different but interlocking power struggles. The war marks the rise of Prussia to great-power status, and the opening of the struggle between France and Britain for maritime supremacy and colonial empire in North America, the Caribbean and India.

MARSHAL NEY: THE BRAVEST OF THE BRAVE
by A. H. Atteridge

A classic work describing Ney's career, from his enlistment as a Hussar in the army of Louis XVI, his promotion through the ranks of the revolutionary armies and his long service under Napoleon. Particularly striking are the author's accounts of Ney's contribution to Napoleon's most famous campaigns - Ulm and Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Friedland and the catastrophic march on Moscow. Ney's last battle, Waterloo, and his subsequent execution by the returning Bourbons form the last chapter of this fascinating story.
