OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 71:
PFALZ SCOUT ACES OF WORLD WAR I
by Greg Van Wyngarden
Pfalz was the third in the great triumvirate, along with Fokker
and Albatros, of German fighter manufacturers in the Great War.
When World War I broke out Pfalz initially produced copies of
the Morane-Saulnier parasol monoplanes, but with the advent of
the famed Fokker Eindeckers with their synchronized machine
guns, Pfalz entered the fighter market with the E.I and its
successors which were similarly armed. The D III/IIIa was flown
in combat by many well-known aces including Werner Voss, Carl
Degelow, Erich Löwenhardt, and Fritz von Röth.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 53:
FOKKER D VII ACES OF WORLD WAR 1 PART 1
by Norman Franks & Greg Van Wyngarden
Hurriedly designed at the end of 1917 just in time to take part in
the German standard fighter competition in January/February
1918, the D VII easily won first prize. As Germanys premier
fighter unit, von Richthofen's JG I (led by Hermann Göring in
the wake of the 'Red Baron's' death) received the first examples
of the D VII to reach the frontline in late April. Built to
oppose the new generation of French SPAD XIIIs and British SE 5a
and Camel fighters, the D VII was arguably the best all-round
fighter of the Great War.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 63:
FOKKER D VII ACES OF WORLD WAR 1 PART 2
by
Norman Franks & Greg Van Wyngarden
The first volume this series covered Fokker D VII aces from the
four elite Jagdgeschwadern of the German army. This volume
charts the story of the many aces who flew the famed fighter in
other units in combat during the final months of World War 1.
The D VII easily proved the equal of the many Allied aircraft it
met in combat, and it served in such roles as bomber
interceptor, 'balloon buster' and nightfighter. D VII aces such
as Sachsenberg, Degelow and Rumey racked up impressive scores
against consistently superior odds.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 44: GLOSTER GLADIATOR
ACES
by Andrew Thomas & John Weal
Flying the ultimate British biplane fighter, pilots in China,
Finland, East Africa, North Africa, Western Europe, the
Mediterranean, Norway and the Middle East all scored the
prerequisite five kills to become aces. The first individuals to
do so were fighting marauding Japanese fighters and bombers
attacking targets in China in 1938. The likes of Sheen, Tuck and
Carey feature in this volume, as they were among the many early
war aces who cut their teeth in Fighter Command on the
Gladiator.
