ENDGAME AT STALINGRAD:
THE STALINGRAD TRILOGY,
VOLUME 3. BOOK TWO
by David M. Glantz & Jonathan M. House
Book Two finds the Red Army’s counteroffensive, Operation Uranus,
well underway. Drawing on previously unavailable material, Glantz
gives a closely observed account of the final ten weeks of Germany’s
ill-fated Stalingrad campaign. In short order, the Red Army parried
and then defeated two German attempts to rescue the Sixth Army,
crushed the Italian Eighth and Hungarian Second Armies, severely
damaged the German Fourth Panzer and Second Armies, and finally
destroyed the German Sixth Army in the ruins of Stalingrad. With
well over half-a-million soldiers torn from its order of battle,
Hitler’s Axis could only watch in horror as its status abruptly
changed from victor to vanquished.

OSPREY ELITE 194: THE CHINESE
PEOPLE'S
LIBERATION ARMY SINCE 1949
by Benjamin Lai.
Illustrated by Adam Hook
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army is
the largest in the world, and China is predicted to be on the
brink of overtaking the USA as the world’s largest economy. The
PLA has progressed steadily since its creation in 1949, from a
mass army using ‘human wave’ tactics, into a highly
sophisticated force with wide capabilities. The most recent
reforms since 1989 have been made possible by massive economic
liberalization, and have seen not only the modernization of the
armed forces, but the beginnings of global outreach, including
Chinese participation in UN peace-keeping missions to Africa,
the Middle East, and Haiti.

An illustrated study of the vehicles designed, developed and
produced at the M.A.N plant in Nürnberg between 1934 and 1945.
Although the production of trucks was an important factor in the
company’s success, it was M.A.N’s experience designing armoured
fighting vehicles that led to the Pz.Kpfw. V “Panther” in 1942
for which it is most renowned during WWII. The repair,
refurbishment and conversion of other armoured vehicles is also
examined, with much new information being presented here for the
first time. Of the 222 photographs in the book, most are
previously unpublished. With a foreword by Hilary Doyle, the
book also includes a colour map of the factory site by Simon
Vosters.

OSPREY NEW VANGUARD 202:
IMPERIAL JAPANESE NAVY
DESTROYERS 1919-45 (2)
by Mark Stille.
Illustrated by Paul Wright
Asashio to Tachibana Classes. During the
Pacific War the most successful component of the Imperial
Japanese Fleet was its destroyer force. These ships were larger
and, in most cases, better-equipped than their Allied
counterparts.
This volume details the history, weapons and tactics of the
destroyers built just before and throughout the war, including
the famous Kagero and Yugumo classes, the experimental destroyer
Shimakaze that boasted a top speed of almost 40 knots and 15
torpedo tubes, and the Matsu class that represented the Japanese
equivalent to an Allied destroyer escort.

This book is the definitive reference on
an unusual topic. Lavishly illustrated with over 600 photographs
and over 200 charts, wartime advertisements and other educational
aids, it represents the most accurate and detailed look at the
rations provided to the German soldier in World War II. Relying
mainly on wartime German and American references, most unknown to
the general public, the book dispels the many myths associated
with German rations of World War II. It will be an invaluable
reference for the serious collector of WWII German military
artifacts
