Born in 1922, the author joined the Grenadier Guards in 1940,
serving in the North African and Italian Campaigns.
His bravery shines through in this modest, humorous description
of the life of a young officer, mentioned in despatches and
awarded the Military Cross. From near death experiences of the
front line to high jinks in the fleshpots of Italy, from
encounters with Montgomery, Eisenhower, Noel Coward, the Pope
and others to the poignant deaths of his closest friends, this
is a gripping tale of a young Guards officer. In peacetime he
became Chairman of Aston Villa Football club from 1975-1982
during which time they defeated Bayern Munich in the 1981-82
European Cup final.
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was the primary bomber used by
the USAAF in the firebombing campaign against Japan in the final
months of World War Two. Famously, it carried out the atomic
attacks that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki and also served in
large numbers in the Korean War. The B-29 remained in service
with the USAF throughout the 1950s, as well as with the Royal
Air Force who named it the 'Washington'. The Soviet Union
produced an unlicensed copy, the Tupolev Tu-4 'Bull'.
Boeing-built bombers, reconnaissance aircraft, trainers and
tanker versions of the B-29, later variants being designated the
B-50.

The German-American Bund in words, photos and artefacts. What
were the origins of the Bund? They were a reaction to many things
including the post-WWI abortive Communist Revolution in Germany and
the response by the Freikorps movement, Hitler's early activities
from 1922-1924, the world-wide economic boycott of German products
starting in 1933 and anti-German propaganda in the USA during the
1930s tied with fresh memories of US involvement in the Great War,
and of course the Great Depression. This is an inside view of the
organisation from interviews, personal diaries, hundreds of photos
and artifacts compiled by the author.
