AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY. THE
6TH WAFFEN-SS VOLUNTEER
GEBIRGS (MOUNTAIN) DIVISION "NORD"
by
Massimiliano Afiero
Formed in
1941, "Nord" was employed along the Finnish−Lapland front
against battle-tested Soviet forces from 1941−44. Following
the signing of the armistice between Finland and the Soviet
Union in the summer of 1944, the division was moved to the
Western Front. "Nord" took part in Operation "Nordwind"
the final German offensive on the western front in late
December 1944, where they fought against American units for
the first time. Tough defensive fighting along the Moselle
and Rhine fronts followed up to the armistice in May 1945.
The units of the division fought to the last, always with
courage and valor. Includes a detailed operational history,
rare combat images, maps, and personaly profiles.

The Lessons
of the Early War, 1939−1941. Cruisers were the Navy’s
maids-of-all-work, employed in a greater variety of roles
than any other warship type. Smaller, faster and far more
numerous than battleships, they could be risked in
situations where capital ships were too vulnerable, while
still providing heavy gunfire support for smaller ships or
anti-aircraft cover for the fleet. As such, they were in the
frontline of the naval war from the outset, and from its
first days, the fighting provided unexpected challenges and
some very unpleasant surprises, not least the efficacy of
air power. The book concludes with a comparison between the
performance of British cruisers and their Italian and German
opponents.

The story the atrocity committed by
the 1-SS Panzer Battle Group under SS-Obersturmbannfuehrer
Joachim Peiper in the Ardennes in 1944. One hundred and
thirteen American prisoners-of-war were assembled in a field
near the village of Malmedy. Though Peiper was not present,
soldiers under his command from 1-SS Panzer Division opened
fire on the men. They then shot, or clubbed to death, any
survivors. In May 1946, Peiper and 70 of his men were put on
trial. Forty-three of those accused were sentenced to death
and the rest received prison sentences. The death sentences
were later commuted to imprisonment. After the war Peiper
took up residence in France where, in the village of Traves,
he was murdered in 1974.
An account of Exercise "Tiger" in April 1944, the
disaster in which 946 US soldiers and sailors lost their
lives. They were training for D-Day when German E-Boats
intercepted their rehearsals for the landings. This is a
comprehensive history of the tragic events, and of the
author's long research and dedication that brought the
little known story to light.
A beautifully illustrated history of Northrop's amazing
Stealth Bomber, the batlike B-2 Spirit. Developed using many
of Jack Northrop's Flying Wing theories (and looking
remarkably similar to the revolutionary XB-35 and YB-49
bombers of the 'forties) the Spirit has truly revolutionised
the USAF's ability to project strategic power on a global
scale. Four stealthy B-2s can deliver the same bombing power
as thirty two standard attack aircraft backed up by twenty
eight escort and defence suppression aircraft and fifteen
tankers!
