JUNGLE ARMOUR: BRITISH AND
INDIAN ARMY
SHERMANS IN THE FAR EAST
by
Dennis Oliver
From 1942 until August 1945, British and Indian troops battled
against the Empire of Japan and its allies across the mountains
and jungles of Burma. In a country were the weather was as
limiting as any enemy action the US built Sherman tank proved its
worth in the final campaign to drive the Japanese from South-East
Asia. Dennis Oliver describes and illustrates the role played by
these remarkable vehicles and the crews who manned them through
Britain’s longest campaign of the Second World War to the vain
attempt to maintain order in post-war Indonesia.

The Allied landing at Suvla Bay commenced on the night of 6th
August 1915, and was intended to support a breakout from Anzac
Beach. Despite early hopes from a largely unopposed landing,
Suvla was a mismanaged affair that quickly became a stalemate.
It was the beginning of the end of the Gallipoli gamble and
created a catalyst of disaster that would come to represent the
failed campaign. This book adds to the story by recounting the
landing through a mix of official and personal accounts
intertwined with a rich collection of participants’ letters,
diaries, photographs and maps.

TOO FEW, TOO FAR: THE STORY OF A
ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO
by Malcolm Angel
Royal Marine George Thomsen was enjoying a farewell party after
a 12 month tour of duty on the Falklands when celebrations were
cut short. He was ordered to pick 8 men and to embark on the HMS
Endurance the next morning. 800 miles to the south East a party of
scrap merchants, accompanied by troops had raised the Argentine
flag over the British territory of South Georgia. This incident
would escalate into all out war. Lightly armed, the tiny,
outnumbered force of Royal Marines made ready for a classic
battle.

The pre-war Soviet T-35 Heavy Tank is one of the most interesting
of all Russian Armoured Fighting Vehicles, if only for its sheer
size and firepower. Even in Russia it is little known, being
overshadowed by its more famous stablemate, the T-34. It became a
symbol of the might of the Red Army in the 1930s and played a
significant role in Soviet tank development. This book contains
much new information, more than 120 photographs - many showing
close-in detail - plus a wealth of 1/35 scale plans and profiles,
seven in full colour.
Newly back in stock.
