The French produced some of the most striking and innovatory
interwar cruiser designs. A large amount of new information
about these ships has become available over the past twenty
years. Part I of this first work in English, explains the design
philosophy behind each of the classes built after 1922, and
outlines the characteristics of each type, accompanied by
detailed data tables and a comprehensive set of specially-drawn
plans based on official documents, as well as carefully-selected
photographs. Part II deals with the historical side, covering
not only the eventful careers of these ships, but also
explaining the peacetime organisation of the Marine Nationale.

On 7 September 1812 at Borodino, 75 miles west of Moscow, the
armies of the Russian and French empires clashed in one of the
climactic battles of the Napoleonic Wars. The survival of the
Russian army after Borodino was a key factor in Napoleon's
eventual defeat and the utter destruction of the French army of
1812. This new study retells the terrible story of Borodino seen
from the Russian point of view, providing a fresh perspective on
the battle and a broader understanding of the reasons for the
eventual Russian triumph.

The sky was lightening with the fast approaching dawn and
Branse was all too aware that his own exhausts were equally
visible. He needed to close in to ensure success and when his
Mosquito was 150 yards away from the Messerschmitt Me410, he
blasted out a 7 second burst of cannon fire. Branse Burbridge
was brought up a Christian and a staunch pacifist. At the
outbreak of World War II, after anguished soul-searching, the
20-year old finally decided that it was his duty to fight for
his country. He trained as an RAF pilot and became the most
successful night-fighter of the war. However, at the end of the
conflict, the dashing young air-ace turned his back on what
promised to be a glittering RAF career to devote the next 50
years to the service of God.
