BITTER VICTORY

by John Pocock. Illustrated by Ralph Weaver

An account of the campaign in Venezia and the South Tyrol, and the battle of Custoza, June-July, 1866. Austrian ruled Venice was delivered to the Kingdom of Italy following Prussia's victory at Koniggratz. This was despite the lacklustre performance of the Royal Italian Army, due largely to the ineptitude of its commanders. This concise history is extensively illustrated with contemporary engravings, maps and diagrams. It features 16 full colour illustrations of uniforms of the combatants, plus orders of battle, regimental distinctions and wargaming hints.

BLITZKREIG UNLEASHED

by Richard Hargreaves

At dawn on Friday 1 September 1939 the Germans launched their land, sea and air assault on Poland. The World became aware of the awesome power of Hitler's Third Reich and the limitless and ruthless nature of his ambition. The Blitzkrieg (Lightning War) attack took the German forces to the gates of Warsaw in a week. The vital port of Danzig fell and the Polish Air Force, out-numbered and out-gunned, were driven from the skies. In a month Warsaw fell and in six weeks the Poles were defeated. Blitzkrieg Unleashed is told in the words of those who conquered Poland.

TEDDY SUHREN ACE OF ACES

by Teddy Suhren & Fritz Brustat-Naval

Reinhard ‘Teddy’ Suhren fired more successful torpedo shots than any other man during the war. He was the U-boat service’s most irreverent and rebellious commander and his lack of a military bearing was a constant source of friction with higher authority. Valued for his good humour and ability to lead, his nickname was acquired because he marched like a teddy-bear. Despite his refusal to conform to the rigid thought-patterns of National Socialism, his operational successes protected him. He was one of the lucky U-boat men who survived the war.

THE EICHMANN TRIAL DIARY: A CHRONICLE OF THE HOLOCAUST

by Sergio Minerbi. Translated by Robert Miller

Fifty years ago, in April 1961, the trial of Adolf Eichmann suddenly revealed to a worldwide audience in all its tragic detail, and for most people for the first time, the shocking reality of the horrors of the Nazi Final Solution. At the time it was not yet known by its current name: the Holocaust or the Shoah. Sergio Minerbi, a young Israeli of Italian origin who had emigrated to Palestine in 1947 was commissioned to cover the trial for Italian State Radio RAI. His work constitutes both a daily chronicle of the court proceedings with a vivid description of the atmosphere inside the courtroom and within the city of Jerusalem that conveys a realistic and vivid picture of the historic proceedings.
