Craig Gottlieb offers a study of Gau Ehrenzeichen, or District
Honor Badges. Although useful as the first-ever collector’s
manual devoted exclusively to the subject, this study can also
help historians understand the formative years of the National
Socialist German Worker’s Party (NSDAP) between 1923 and 1939.
Drawing on his knowledge and a keen understanding of the period,
Gottlieb offers a unique view into the pre-war history of Nazi
Germany, using never-before-published photos and drawing from
private archives of original specimens of every badge and
corresponding award document.

1812 was the year in which the Peninsular War swung in the favour
of the combined forces of the British, Spanish and Portuguese
coalition. The year began with Wellington launching a series of
raids in Estramadura to distract French attention from preparations
for an assault on Ciudad Rodrigo, which was taken in late-January.
There followed the capture of Badajoz and the advance on Salamanca
where some 50,000 French troops were arrayed against a similar
number of allies. On 22 July Wellington gained a crushing victory,
inflicting over 14,000 French casualties.
