A remarkable
escape story. The author was captured in 1940. He escaped
across Northern France to Brittany and made his way to the
coast following the route of the invading armies. He crossed
the Seine by means of a half-built pontoon bridge. His first
attempt to cross the Channel was thwarted when his boat headed
for German occupied waters around St Helier. On the second
attempt he escaped from Cherbourg to England in the summer of
1940.
The fifth in a series of books detailing the air
battles and wartime activity over Britain focuses on
Bedfordshire. This is the first book to detail the
aviation history of the county, its airfields such as
Cardington, Luton, Podington and Tempsford, and the many
aviation crashes and events. Thirty six air crashes are
investigated in great detail and a complete list of major
incidents from 1920 to 1954 is included.

Hitler's Atlantic Wall, the complex system of coastal fortifications that stretched from Norway to the Spanish border during the Second World War, was built to defend occupied Europe from Allied invasion. Many of its principal structures survive and this book is an authoritative guide to them. The wall also included the concrete U-boat and E-boat pens in the key ports, and the Channel coast V-weapon sites. Co-authored by A. Jankovic-Potocnik and Vladamir Tonic, this book will be essential reading and reference for any one who is interested in the history of fortifications and the liberation of occupied Europe.
