A Rhodesian Policeman's war, 1971-1982. The author served with
Rhodesia’s elite British South Africa Police during the Bush War
days. The war throughout the country escalated and indiscriminate
acts of terror decided him to join the elite Police Support Unit
which comprised 12 companies of fighting policemen, most of them
black. The Black Boots as they were known, were as smart as the
Brigade of Guards on parade, and as fighting men they matched or
surpassed any elite fighting unit anywhere in the world.
Hitler created the Sniper Badge on August 20, 1944, to impel
soldiers to train and be used as snipers. Thus the strategic
importance of single combat was stressed in highly stylized
propaganda. Since the soldiers themselves were in sight of the
enemy troops, unlike the members of other service arms, they
experienced the death of their enemies directly. In this concise
history, this badge, as well as the actions of German snipers, is
examined and includes colour images of badges, weapons, awards,
soldbuchs, and war era photos.
