Subtitled 'Hitler's Slavic Wedge, 1938-1945' this splendid
volume provides the complete history of Slovak Armed Forces
in WWII. As a close ally of the Third Reich they
participated in the invasions of Poland and Hungary prior to
taking part in "Operation Barbarossa", the invasion of the
Soviet Union. In 1944 part of the Slovak Army rebelled
against the Nazis. They were suppressed by the SS late in
that year.

Translated from the memoir 'Kesselpanzer' this is an
account of the breakout from the Halbe-Kessel, April to May,
1945. While the Battle of Berlin is widely known, the
horrific story of the Halbe Kessel remains largely untold.
In April 1945, victorious Soviet forces encircled 80,000 men
of the German 9th Army in the Halbe area, South of Berlin,
together with many thousands of German civilians. The small
town of Halbe became the eye of the hurricane for the
breakout, as King Tigers of the SS Panzer Corps led the
spearhead to the West, supported by Panthers of the
battle-hardened 21st Panzer Division. This is a first-hand
account by the commander of one of those Panther tanks.

The
battleships of the Dunkerque and Richelieu classes were the
most radical and influential designs of the interwar period,
and were coveted by the British, the Germans and the
Italians following the Armistice of June 1940. After an
extensive refit in the USA, Richelieu went on to serve
alongside the Royal Navy during 1943-45. In this new study
of these important and technically interesting ships, a full
account of their development is followed by a detailed
analysis of their design characteristics, profusely
illustrated by inboard profiles and schematic drawings. The
technical chapters are interspersed with operational
histories of the ships

The only tangible result of the
three vicious battles fought on the slopes of Monte Cassino
were the 50,000 Allied and German casualties. As a Battalion
Commander, the author fought in the Cassino battles and he
assesses the tactics and evaluates the claims of each
particular unit and command, reaffirming that the Germans
never used the monastery for military purposes. Translated
from the orginal German publication.
