A Rhodesian Policeman's War, 1971-1982. The author served with
Rhodesia’s elite British South Africa Police during the Bush War
days. The war throughout the country escalated and indiscriminate
acts of terror decided him to join the elite Police Support Unit
which comprised 12 companies of fighting policemen, most of them
black. The Black Boots as they were known, were as smart as the
Brigade of Guards on parade, and as fighting men they matched or
surpassed any elite fighting unit anywhere in the world.
BERLIN AT WAR: LIFE AND DEATH IN HITLER'S CAPITAL
1939-45
by Roger Moorhouse
Berlin was the
nerve-centre of Hitler's Germany. It was the backdrop for the most
lavish of Nazi ceremonies, the venue for Albert Speer's grandiose
plans to forge a new 'world metropolis', and the scene of the
final climactic battle to defeat Nazism. Yet we know little about
the wider challenges posed to the German people by living under a
dictatorship in wartime. This vivid study portrays the German
experience of the Second World War from the viewpoint of the
capital’s streets and homes, making use of published and
unpublished memoirs, diaries and interviews.
Thirty years on from its original publication, this fully updated
edition of John Gaylor’s acclaimed work still remains an
invaluable reference source for collectors. It covers the
evolution of regimental badges from the numbered regiments of foot
up until 1881, including Territorials, the Home Guard, the Brigade
of Gurkhas and many lesser known units. Appendices deal with
feathered plumes, Scottish tartans and a full list of Volunteer
battalions in 1908. Nearly 800 badges from 1881 to the present are
illustrated.
