PANZERARTILLERIE: FIREPOWER
FOR THE PANZER DIVISIONS
by Thomas Anderson
The
Panzerartillerie was one of the key components of the Panzer
divisions that were the spearhead of the German forces when
they overran most of Western Europe, and reached as far as
the gates of Moscow in the East. The Blitzkrieg required
fast-moving, mobile artillery that could support units at
the front line, and the Panzerartillerie provided that for
the Wehrmacht. The Allies had no answer or equivalent to
them until the US entry into the war. Drawing on original
material, including some images that have never been
published before, armour expert Thomas Anderson explores the
formation and development of this force from its early days
in the 1930s, through the glory days of Blitzkrieg warfare
to its eventual decline in the face of the challenges of the
Eastern Front.

The author, an Officer during the
German invasion of Poland, relates his experiences as a
member of the Polish Forces in exile and the Polish
underground resistance. After Poland's defeat in 1939, he
joined the Resistance, fighting on two fronts - against the
German occupiers and the Russians. He was a witness to the
German extermination of the Jews. At the end of the war he
escaped to the West pursued by the Russians.
The breaking of the Japanese Purple ciphers. Taken from
thousands of declassified Ultra/Magic signals, these are
transcripts of signals between Berlin and Tokyo that, with a
chronological overlay by the author, demonstrate how the
decoding allowed the High Command to understand the strategy
and plans of Germany and Japan and influenced the strategic
prosecution of the war. Also looks at the duplicity of
Laval, the Latin American countries willing to support the
Axis and the ceding of Berlin to the Soviets.
