THE 1ST FALLSCHIRMJAGER
DIVISION IN WORLD WAR II:
VOLUME ONE: YEARS OF ATTACK
by Ben Christensen
The
men of the German 1st Parachute Division are renowned as
some of the best soldiers of World War II. At Eben Emael
they executed the most successful commando raid of the war,
on Crete the most audacious attack, and in Monte Cassino the
most dogged defence. The books contains thirty detailed
Orders of Battle, 500 short biographies of the key personnel
in the division, and a list of all the Knights Cross and the
German Cross in Gold winners. This first volume follows the
recruitment and training of the Fallschirmjagers and their
revolutionary vertical deployment in Scandinavia, Holland,
Eben Emael, Corinth and Crete, and as elite infantry on the
Eastern Front.

U-Boat 977 was the German
submarine that escaped to Argentina at the end of World War
Two. This epic journey started from Bergen in Norway, where
in April 1945 it was temporarily based, and took three and a
half months to complete. Because of the continuing Allied
naval activity the commander decided to make the first part
of the journey underwater. Before surfacing near the west
coast of Africa U-977 had spent a remarkable sixty-six days
submerged. In the final months of the war, and in common with
most surviving U-boat commanders, Schaeffer and his crew
came under constant attacks from Allied aircraft and surface
ships.
An issue of a French language
magazine. It features articles and numerous black and white
photographs of the jet and rocket powered aircraft in
service with Luftwaffe during the latter years of World War
II. The volume features numerous large colour side view and
several 3 view renderings of the following aircraft:
Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet. Messerschmitt Me 262.
Arado Ar 234 Blitz. Heinkel He 162 Spatz.
These
excellent profiles show camouflage schemes, unit markings

modellers.

When Montgomery took command prior
to D-Day he gathered around him commanders and formations he
knew and trusted and, not surprisingly, 7th Armoured
Division was one of these. The author, who fought alongside
the Desert Rats, describes the Division's battles from the
beaches, the breakout battles (Goodwood and Bluecoat) and
the liberation of Northern France and Belgium. After taking
Ghent there were the long months fighting in the Netherlands
before Operation Blackcock, the Rhine Crossing and the final
advance into Germany, the capture of Hamburg and the Allies'
triumphant entry into Berlin.
Created, ordered and led by Adolf
Hitler, the state apparatus of Nazi Germany rigorously
controlled all aspects of life in the Third Reich. To
maintain his iron grip on the German people Hitler
surrounded himself with a small clique of fanatical
acolytes. This is an extensively illustrated study of Alfred
Rosenberg, Albert Speer, Heinrich Himmler, Josef Goebbels,
Martin Bormann, Hermann Goering, Baldur von Shirach, Joachim
von Ribbentrop and Rudolf Hess. The book also includes a
profile of Hitler's mistress (and later wife), Eva Braun.
