When the Battleship Bismarck was commissioned in 1940 she was
one of the fastest and most powerful ships afloat. She posed an
enormous threat to Allied shipping and when she broke out into the
Atlantic in 1941, some of Britain’s most powerful ships were sent
to pursue and sink her. The first encounter proved disastrous for
the British Battleship HMS Hood, which was sunk on 24 May but
Bismarck had sustained several hits from HMS Prince of Wales and
she was discovered by an RAF Catalina on 26 May and attacked by a
Fairey Swordfish flying off HMS Ark Royal.
The Northumberland Fusiliers was one of the oldest regiments in
the British Army. Descended from an Irish regiment raised in
Holland by Lord Clare in 1674, it became part of the British Army
in 1688 and, in 1747, it was numbered the 5th Regiment of Foot.
During the next 155 years it fought in North America, Canada,
South America, the West Indies, the Peninsula, India (where three
VCs were won during the Mutiny) and finally in South Africa where
this history ends. It became the 1st Battalion of the Royal
Regiment of Fusiliers in 1968.

Britain was the first country to suffer a ballistic missile
attack from beyond its borders. This book tells the story of that
attack. Arriving at supersonic speed, without warning, and with
the defences powerless against them, V-2 rockets did enormous
damage and had a serious effect on public morale. The author tells
of this technically brilliant but hated weapon, the ancestor of
all subsequent ballistic missiles, and reveals the devious
power-play within the German Armed Forces and the Nazi
establishment which so influenced the creation of the V-2.
This is the first in a new series of monographs that take a
graphic look at how the Germans organized and employed special
purpose vehicles, or Sonderkraftfahrzeuge (abbreviated Sd.Kfz.). The
book details the tactics of the Nebeltruppen, how its troops were
organized, the proper names of their vehicles, the chronology of the
changes they underwent, and when the units themselves were created.

of over 80 original wartime photos taken by the troops themselves.
