A very rare history of the USAAF 8th Air Force 487th
Bombardment Group from its formation in September, 1943,
initial training at Alamogordo, New Mexico, and
subsequent deployment to England (via Brazil and North
Africa) in April, 1944. Based at Lavenham, Suffolk, the
unit was initially equipped with B-24s and undertook a
number of missions against targets in Europe during May
and June. In July, 1944 they re-equipped with B-17
Flying Fortresses, carrying out intensive raids through
to April, 1945. This extremely collectible volume
includes hundreds of black and white photographs, a
complete listing of the 487th's missions plus a
comprehensive roster of the unit's personnel. It is
presented in bright, clean blue leather boards with gold
insignia and cover title. |
