Formed in 1916, 37 Squadron, Royal Air Force came to the fore
in World War II, taking part in the armed reconnaissance of the
German Battle Fleet at Wilhelmshaven just hours after the
declaration of war on 3rd September, 1939. Commencing their
wartime operations with Harrows and Wellingtons, and transitioning
to Liberators in 1942, they served with distinction in the
Norwegian campaign, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and the campaign
against the Balkan oilfields. This history is based on the diaries
of Frank Sullivan who served as a rear gunner, and founded the
squadron association.
